KUAM News – A pair of post-typhoon-related bills are introduced at the request of Guam’s attorney general.
Sen. William Parkinson is the author of Bills 146 and 147.
The first would extend the price freeze of goods to 90 days after Guam returns to Condition of Readiness 4 following a natural disaster.
The senator noted the current law states prices stay frozen only for three days after a return to COR4.
The proposal comes after concerns over price gouging surfaced during and after the typhoon.
Bill 147 would require the damaged weatherheads be inspected only by Guam Power Authority personnel, noting current law states weatherheads must be inspected by a certified electrical company or electrician.
The bill also includes a provision that these weatherhead inspections by GPA will come at no cost to the customer or business with damaged weatherheads.
