ABC Pacific – Kiribati has confirmed its intention to rejoin the Pacific’s peak political forum, ending a persistent and bitter leadership split.
The Pacific nation wrote to Fijian prime minister and Pacific Islands Forum chair Sitiveni Rabuka this week, announcing its decision to return to the PIF.
Federated States of Micronesia president David Panuelo welcomed the news after months of work to repair the relationship with Kiribati.
“We were all doing many efforts to reach out to Kiribati … this is the right timing,” Mr Panuelo said.
