Guam PDN – The National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Guam said it is watching closely as a tropical cyclone could develop in the region bringing more weather activity.
NWS released its weekly regional weather outlook on Tuesday and said the region remains free of significant weather.
A tropical disturbance near Palau late last week developed to become Tropical Storm Yagi (12W) which is now moving away from the northern Philippines to the west, NWS said.
“Locally, there is growing speculation about the possibility of a tropical cyclone developing within the FSM later this week and moving toward the Marianas sometime early to mid-next week. This remains one of several forecast scenarios for the region through next week,” NWS said.
For now, there are no suspect tropical disturbances in the region, however, NWS will keep a close eye on conditions within the trough northwest of Guam, and in the FSM, for any suspect areas for development.
Yagi is the only active tropical cyclone in the western North Pacific at this time.
